Eagle’s Cliff Africa (“ECA”, “we”, “us”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal data we collect through eaglescliffafrica.com, why we collect it, how we protect it, and the rights you have under Ghana’s Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).

1. Who we are

Eagle’s Cliff Africa is a company limited by guarantee, registered in Ghana and based in Accra. We decide how and why your personal data is used, which makes us the data controller for the purposes of Act 843. We are registered with the Data Protection Commission of Ghana.

2. What we collect

• When you contact us: your name, organisation, email address, the topic you choose and your message.
• When you pitch a story: your name, country, email address, your pitch and any links you share.
• When you subscribe to our newsletter: your email address.
• When you register interest in an event: the details you give us.
• When you use the website: basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type, pages visited and the site that referred you. This comes from our hosting provider’s logs and, if you agree, from analytics cookies.

We do not ask for sensitive personal data, such as information about your health, religion or political opinions. Please do not include it in messages or pitches.

3. How we use your data

• To reply to your enquiries and manage partnership, collaboration, sponsorship and media requests.
• To review pitches and, where we commission a piece, to work with you on it.
• To send our newsletter, only if you have subscribed. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link.
• To organise events you have registered interest in.
• To understand, in aggregate, how the website is used so we can improve it.
• To keep the website secure and to meet our legal obligations.

4. Our legal basis

We process personal data on one or more of these grounds: your consent (for example, for the newsletter and analytics cookies); because it is needed to act on your request (for example, to answer your message or commission your article); our legitimate interest in running a non-profit organisation and its website, balanced against your rights; or to comply with the law.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell personal data. We share it only with:

• service providers who process it on our behalf under contract, such as our website host, email and newsletter services, form tools and analytics provider;
• professional advisers, such as lawyers and auditors, where needed;
• public authorities, where the law requires it.

6. Transfers outside Ghana

Some of our service providers store data outside Ghana. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to make sure your data receives a level of protection consistent with Act 843.

7. Cookies, embedded content and sharing

We use a small number of essential cookies and similar storage to make the site work, for example to remember whether you chose dark mode. Analytics cookies are used only with your agreement.

Some pages include videos and posts from YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Vimeo. When you play or view them, those services may set their own cookies and collect data under their own privacy policies. Our share buttons send you to the service you choose only when you click them.

You can control cookies through your browser settings.

8. How long we keep it

• Enquiries: up to two years after our last contact with you.
• Pitches: up to twelve months, or for as long as needed if we commission your piece.
• Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe.
• Financial and legal records: for as long as the law requires.

9. How we protect it

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), reputable service providers, access controls and limited staff access to protect your data.

10. Your rights

Under Act 843 you can:

• ask whether we hold personal data about you and request a copy;
• ask us to correct, update or delete data that is inaccurate, out of date or no longer needed;
• object to our processing of your data, including for direct marketing;
• withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent;
• complain to the Data Protection Commission.

11. Children

This website is not aimed at children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Links to other websites

Our briefings link to the original reports on other publishers’ websites. We are not responsible for how those websites handle personal data.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make significant changes, we will say so on this page.
